Job Description - Television Presenter

A Television Presenters role is to introduce, present and host programmes in a professional manner. Television presenters normally become well known personalities to viewers.

The day can be long at television studios; presenters can work very unsociable hours, often early mornings and late evenings. Accuracy and timing is a must. You will need to work to very tight deadlines and the stress of this can be mentally and physically tiring.

There is also a lot of competition for jobs – normally more jobseekers than jobs available - that's why on the most persistent and dedicated will succeed.

Training & Qualifications

Most colleges offer courses in television, film, video and journalism all these may be useful for a television presenter in the making!

Television presenters are expected to have a good general education. A television presenter for current affairs may require a higher level of education in politics, finance etc.

Many presenters start off as researchers and production assistants to gain experience.

Personal Qualities

Depending on the type of show a well groomed appearance is important however  nowadays beauty is not such a prerequisite it is more a question of having and interesting and appealing look that the viewing public can identify with.  A presenter should have a well controlled and expressive voice and a  confident,  relaxed manner (on the surface at least).
