Sports Recreation Manager - Job Description
A Sports and Recreation Facility Manager is responsible for the smooth running of Leisure Centres, Swimming Pools, Gyms and other sports recreation facilities. There are over 1500 Leisure centres in the UK, some are private and others are run by the local authority. Each Leisure Centre has a manager and trained staff including lifeguards, fitness instructors. Training & Qualifications Most Sports Managers begin their careers working in leisure centres and other public leisure environments at a lower level and work their way up to becoming managers. The Institute of Sport and Recreation Management offer NVQ training courses from Recreation Assistant to Management. Some management training courses on offer include: BTEC Higher National Diplomas and Certificates and GNVQ/ GSVQ Level III in Leisure & Tourism. Personal Qualities To become a Sports Recreation Manager you should have a knowledge and interest in a wide range of sporting activities, an out going personality, the ability to organise and manage people and be panic proof.
