Job Description - Set Designer When people think of theatre careers they mainly think of acting and directing, but here are many exciting careers in the glamorous world of theatre, including Theatre Set Designer. The Set Designer is responsible for the overall look of the theatre set and he/she works closely with the costume designer, lighting designer, producer and director. A set designer is responsible for designing the scenery by producing drawings and miniature models, he/she is also responsible for the set budget. Training & Qualifications Qualifications are desirable is you wish to pursue a career in theatre design although it is possible to enter into set design if you have an excellent design portfolio but most set designers have completed an art and design course. Personal Qualities To become a successful set designer you must have a love of the theatre, a good knowledge of period clothes, a strong sense of style and the ability to work within a set budget.
