The game of basketball as we know it today began in Springfield, Massachusetts, USA in 1891. Dr. James Naismith invented basketball, he was born in Ramsay Ontario, Canada in 1861. Naismith wanted to create a game that could be played indoors during the winter for students. The first game played was using a soccer ball and peach baskets as goals. Today millions of people not only in the USA but all over the world enjoy Basketball.
