Job Description - Aircraft Engineer

Aircraft engineers are also known under various job titles including aircraft mechanics, aircraft tradesperson or licensed aircraft mechanic/tradesperson. Their job is to carry out repairs, regular checks and generally maintain aircrafts. Aircraft Engineers work both indoors in hangers and outdoors on the airfield. Training and Qualifications Usually to be accepted onto an Aircraft Engineer course you should have qualifications in Maths English and Science and then go on to training in Aeronautical Engineering. Personal Qualities An Aircraft Mechanic needs to have good eye sight and hearing, have problem solving skills, be methodical practical and have an eye for detail, they must be able to work sometimes at both heights and enclosed spaces.

The Transport Canada Aircraft Maintenance Engineer licence requires a combination of a minimum of four year training and work experience. This apprenticeship-style program is unique in Canada. It is delivered in four 9 week semesters with approximately 1200 hours of training. The balance of approximately 6000 hours is monitored work experience.

In-school instruction covers all areas necessary to service and maintain fixed and rotary wing aircraft, including: airframe, powerplants, propeller systems, nondestructive testing and composite repairs.
